Guerillascope has joined over 4,300 UK businesses as a voluntary Living Wage Employer.
The initiative, led by the Living Wage Foundation, campaigns for businesses to pay the Real Living Wage, which unlike the Minimum Wage and National Living is based on actual living costs. This equates to £8.75 per hour for people outside of London, and £10.20 for those living in the Capital. But, unlike the Minimum Wage and National Living Wage, there is no statutory obligation for businesses to comply.
So, why have we become a Living Wage Employer? Fundamentally, we think it’s the right thing to do. At a time when people across the UK are toiling under the weight of rising food, travel, energy and housing costs, we believe businesses have a responsibility. Specifically, employers should ensure their staff are paid a wage that allows them to enjoy a standard of living their hard work deserves. Consumers certainly agree, with 90% believing wages should reflect living costs.
Of course, it would be disingenuous of us to ignore the business advantages that come with looking after your staff. We know that without our dedicated and talented team, we could not exist. Our employees are the beating heart of the company, going above and beyond to ensure their clients are happy. Yet, if their lives outside of work are fraught with financial pressures and anxieties, their morale within the office will inevitably drop.
Committing to the Real Living Wage enables us to keep staff turnover low and motivation high. It means young talents taking their first steps in the industry can progress and flourish without the millstone of everyday life stresses slowing them down. People function at a higher level when they know they have a strong support network behind them; as employers, it’s our job to unlock that potential.
Commenting on the accreditation, Katy Sharpe, Guerillascope’s Managing Director, said: “We know how expensive life in London can be, so we felt it was important to take part in the initiative and show our commitment to paying our employees well.”
