The cancellation of this year’s festival season is expected to have a devastating impact on refugees displaced in Calais. Collective Aid desperately needs your support…
Of the many ways COVID-19 has affected lives, a shortage of tents may not be the first that comes to mind. And yet, with every UK summer festival announcing its postponement or cancellation this year, a humanitarian crisis is escalating on French shores.
Last year, Calais received over 2,000 discarded tents from music festivals in the UK, which in turn provided shelter for refugees seeking solace from wet summers and freezing winters.
The sad reality is that even with these tents, not every refugee can be catered for. With conditions already appalling, the need to raise money is an urgent one: Collective Aid requires £24,000 just to source replacements.
This pandemic has disproportionately affected the most disadvantaged members of society, but it’s also revealed the power of working together to protect one another. Collective Aid is therefore appealing to anybody with a few pounds to spare.
Your donation – however small – could make all the difference to somebody whose suffering already goes beyond anything we can comprehend.
